Click post title to view set of photos for Trey Songz Rocawear campaign.
This summer I had the opportunity to work with Trey Songz and Rocawear for their Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. Trey was in Washington D.C. for WPGC 95.5’s Birthday Bash performance and this shoot took place locally at the Washington D.C. St. Regis hotel as well as on the streets of Washington D.C. the day after.
This shoot was an insane production and security pulled out all the stops for Trey. We even had a motorcade bringing us through the DC streets during the day and at night for the shots on the mall and the last barbershop photos at an authentic barbershop that had been in business for decades upon decades.
The photographer, Anthony Mandler, is known for his intense imagery and direction on videos such as Ushers “OMG’, Rihanna’s “Russian Roulette”, and… well there are way too many videos to name what he has directed so click on his name above to check out his Wikipedia so you can learn all things Anthony Mandler. :) This guy is a genius and he’s also sweet enough to buy the entire crew ice cream off an ice cream vendor on The Mall who was in the process of getting kicked out (by our own police escorts) for not having a permit. lmao.
I didn’t have prior notice that Trey had a show coming out on BET and there was videotaping but I am still not sure if that was for the campaign or for the show. Gotta love the day of reality TV and never knowing when you will be caught on tv yourself. I have seen a couple of episodes of BET’s “Trey Songz: My Moment” and his team shown on that show are focused for sure. His assistant, manager, and everyone there (friends, cousins, countrymen, lol) were down to earth yet all business. I’m not sure how those two intertwine but you could catch moments of themselves between what needed to get done and it seemed like the perfect mix for the ride Trey is on right now.
Follow the link above to see the majority of Trey’s shoot that covers the first 32 pages of XXL Magazine and Vibe Magazine on stands now!
When the ideal of a community photography studio came to our minds year’s back, my husband and I decided we wanted to provide local Washington DC photography industry artists with advanced education that they would normally have to find in major US markets such as LA and NY. It was a very normal thing to have to travel back and forth to NY if anyone desired to get this type of education and if we could do anything to help further aid the community in bringing big names down here then we wanted to help.
Shortly after opening I ran into a friend’s post announcing all the tour date’s of The Powder Group’s “American Beauty Tour” with Billy B. Not surprisingly, Washington DC was not included in the list of stops even though I had already known a number of Washington DC based artists were traveling back and forth to continue their education in NY. We joked we would protest. We DID end up writing! Next thing you know, the official launch of Studio 400 and it’s workshops were born and Billy B. (recently known as the look of Lady Gaga) leaded this new phase by teaching a workshop to a packed studio of local Washington DC makeup artists.

(Billy B. signing Studio 400’s makeup door.)
Jump to present time and we’ve had the likes of editorial artist DeShawn Hatcher, Emmy award winning makeup artist, Suzanne Patterson, who held her HDTV airbrushing seminar in studio, and have held a number of photogaphy workshops including LA Beauty and Fashion photographer Sean Armenta, whose client’s include Paul Mitchell, Wet Seal, and more!

(Photo by Sean Armenta at last Prep2Post workshop at Studio400. Makeup by me.)
Now we are happy to focus on bringing even more top notch education to the DMV area by presenting multiple Emmy award winning artist Kevin James Bennett. Kevin has been an educator for many many years and even runs an industry website that some of us artists treat as the “bible of makeup product suggestions”, www.inmykit.com , where he breaks down what industry artists have made popular in their kits and why. If you have been to ANY of the industry shows such as The Makeup Show or IMATS in any recent years, you will have recognized Kevin as the lead artist of education for Make Up For Ever where he commanded huge audiences and taught everything from the importance of proper HD Makeup to teaching “Bullet Proof Bride” techniques to what he will be teaching right at our studio, creating a makeup look for “The Perfect Portrait”. (For more information on Kevin’s July workshop click here )

I feel so blessed to be a part of these and future lineups at the studio because as an artist I don’t feel I can ever stop learning. As an educator myself, I get inspired to give my students more and by watching the passion that goes into all of these workshops and demos, it makes me want to strive to give that same passion back through my classes.
Please add www.studio400.net to keep up with all latest workshop announcements and sign up pages. I hope to see you at an upcoming event @Studio400 soon!
I’m looking at a group of ladies who I worked with last year on a number of The Real Housewives of DC episodes, including my local agency owner in the group, and right next to them is the commercial I co-keyed with my good friend Richard for Top Chef DC. I remember when DC was by no means considered any kind of market for the type of work I do, but now it’s plastered all over this page. Go Washingtonians!

Photo: Bravotv.com/ I did not do work on these photos, just the show. :)
I just got word that my hour Comedy Central special, “Money Shot,” will be airing on Saturday August 21st. Mark your iCal. Here is a sneak peek-a-boobie.
I modeled my hair do after Al Sharpton.
I’m not sure what I’m doing in the photo but I am definitely embarrassing my family.
Talking about either balls or vaginas.
Of course I have to reblog because this is the show I am so thrilled to have worked with Whitney on :D Is that proper English? It’s late and I’m very sleepy so I’ll pretend I have an excuse. Can’t wait to check it out!
Good night folks!
Kat

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Denis and his lovely wife Ann Leary for the White House Correspondent’s Dinner last year, so when Denis came back to Washington DC on a leg of his Rescue Me Comedy Tour 2 I got called in to do grooming for Denis and “the boys” as I’d come to call them through the night. The likes of comedians Lenny Clarke, Adam Ferrara, and Denis’ band “the enablers” rowdied up the crowd all night between their stand up sets and hilarious songs. This show is not for the faint of heart! If you are easily offended this may not be for you, but if you can take a (real good) joke, then this is your crowd. :)

I also just found out Miss Emotional Ninja herself, Whitney Cummings, is joining Denis on a leg of his tour in California this week! I seriously wish I could have been out there to work with both of them the same night!! I think I’d have just passed out laughing. Just being around that energy makes you feel inspired like no other. If you have a chance and are in the LA and San Diego areas PLEASE go and check this combo out. You can thank me later! :D
There is more info at Denis Leary’s site as well as at Whitney Cummings site. Let me know if you had a chance to check it out live!
